Yes. The scanning interface uses your phone or tablet camera. Point the camera at any standard barcode or QR code and the system decodes it instantly using the browser's built in camera API. No app installation required. For high volume warehouses, dedicated USB or Bluetooth barcode scanners also work because they output text to the focused input field just like a keyboard. Most of our clients start with phone cameras and add dedicated scanners when throughput demands it.

How accurate is the stock count if multiple people are scanning at the same time?

Every stock movement is an atomic database transaction. When two warehouse staff scan items simultaneously, each transaction acquires a row level lock, records the movement, and releases. The stock level is always the sum of all movements, so there is no race condition or lost update. The movement ledger provides a complete audit trail showing who scanned what, when, and at which location. If a discrepancy is found during a physical count, an adjustment movement reconciles the ledger.

Every stock movement creates an immutable ledger entry in PostgreSQL: the current stock level is a computed value derived from the sum of all movements, ensuring the numbers always reconcile. The barcode scanning interface uses the device camera via a web API, decodes the barcode client side, and looks up the product instantly. Purchase orders follow a state machine workflow: draft, submitted, approved, partially received, fully received. Multi warehouse support uses a location dimension on every stock movement record, so transferring between warehouses creates a paired outbound and inbound movement. Background jobs check reorder points every hour and generate purchase order suggestions when stock falls below thresholds. The API layer exposes REST endpoints for sales channel integrations to decrement stock on order placement.
