Mobile App Architecture

React Native with Expo handles the cross platform UI layer, compiling to native iOS and Android binaries from TypeScript. Expo Router provides file based navigation matching Next.js conventions. The API layer runs on a separate backend (Hono on Railway) with PostgreSQL for persistent data. Push notifications route through Expo Push Service which handles both APNs and FCM token management. Authentication uses Better Auth with secure token refresh stored in the device keychain. Images and media upload to S3 compatible storage via presigned URLs. EAS Build compiles production binaries in the cloud, and EAS Update pushes JavaScript bundle updates without requiring App Store review.
